Summer Camp

Our 85-year-old organization is headquartered in Austin, TX, but produces most of its programming in Killeen, TX, at Peaceable Kingdom by Variety, (PK). The retreat experience is hugely beneficial to families and helps Texas youth – especially children living with disabilities or special needs - create community, expand their self-reliance, and explore goals for their futures.

Retreats & Camps at Peaceable Kingdom by Variety
Peaceable Kingdom has become a place where kids of all abilities can push their personal limits while they discover the empowering freedom that comes from the great outdoors.

Nonprofit Orgs & Disability Specific Camps
The Retreat & Camp Program allows hospitals, nonprofit organizations, and other groups to experience Peaceable Kingdom by Variety and all its adaptable activities. Our Retreat & Camp Program encourages children with special needs from across the state of Texas to build lifelong friendships and community. While each camp or retreat is unique, most encourage physical achievement, social development, and education through specialized activities.

Family Camps & Respite Retreats

This Summer, Variety launched Family Camps for all families who want to experience and share outdoor adventures and camp activities. (And our families decide who is included as a member.) We all know summertime is kids’ favorite time of year and summer camp is the best place to explore new freedoms and to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Texas families raising children with extra needs often have few opportunities for low-cost vacations or easy access to wheelchair-friendly outdoor activities that can be enjoyed by everyone. Throughout the year, Peaceable Kingdom by Variety hosts family camps and respite retreats. Activities at PK, like archery, fishing, putt-putt, and swimming are adaptive and accessible for all ages and all levels of mobility and ability.

Challenging illnesses or special needs can often prevent children from attending a traditional camp or spending an overnight away from caregivers. Family Camp is a perfect option to bridge the gap for these families.
