There is something powerful about watching a child discover what becomes possible when they have the right support, encouragement, and opportunity.
“I was a little worried because she's never been on a two-wheel bike before. I've never attempted because it's hard for us to train her. And she's just making so much progress.” - Caroline's Mom
That spirit filled every day of the 2026 Variety Texas Adaptive Bike Camp. Throughout the week, riders built cycling skills, gained confidence, and took meaningful steps toward greater independence with individualized instruction and encouragement. Every lap, every smile, and every milestone reminded us that inclusion isn't just about access—it's about creating opportunities for children to thrive.
“The bike camp is an amazing experience. I wish it were longer!” - 2026 Variety Texas Adaptive Bike Camp Parent
The impact reached far beyond the riding course.
Five campers received brand-new bicycles through Variety Texas' Heart of Variety grant program, giving them the opportunity to continue riding long after camp ended.
One parent shared:
“Akshaya is enjoying her bike and she asks me every day to take her to bike camp. Hopefully next year will be more than a week.”
Our post-camp surveys reflected that impact:
100% of participating families agreed or strongly agreed that Bike Camp created joy, connection, or positive moments for their child.
100% agreed or strongly agreed that Bike Camp made a meaningful difference for their family.
Those outcomes are only possible because of an incredible community that believes every child deserves the opportunity to ride.
Volunteers collectively gave 400 hours of their time, encouragement, and energy throughout the week, creating a welcoming environment where every rider was celebrated. Their patience, enthusiasm, and belief in our campers helped turn challenges into achievements and strangers into teammates.
We are especially grateful to SouthState Bank for sending an outstanding volunteer team whose encouragement and care made a lasting impression on our riders and families.
This camp would not have been possible without the partnership and generosity of so many organizations. Thank you to iCan Shine for providing world-class adaptive cycling instruction, Down Syndrome Association of Central Texas (DSACT) for its partnership, Chamois Butt'r for its generous support, and St. Francis School for welcoming us to its campus.
Most importantly, thank you to every rider, parent, caregiver, volunteer, donor, and partner who made this week possible. Your support helped children discover new confidence, greater independence, and the joy that comes from achieving something they once thought was out of reach.
We are already looking forward to welcoming even more riders next year.
