Learning to ride brings freedom, confidence, and independence.
Volunteer to support Variety Texas iCan Shine Adaptive Bike Camp and you will help children and young adults with disabilities learn to ride a two-wheel bike — often in just 5 days.
What Is Adaptive Bike Camp?
At camp, riders get one-on-one help from trained staff and volunteers.
We use:
Special bikes and equipment
A step-by-step teaching method
A safe, indoor space and outdoor space
Each rider learns at their own pace.
By the end of the week, many riders can ride on their own.
Volunteer Expectations
You are helping someone learn to ride a two-wheel bicycle independently. Ideally, you and another volunteer will support one young person with a disability learn to ride a bike during the same 75-minute session for 5 days (July 13 - 17th, 2026). This high volunteer to rider ratio is part of our successful formula for increasing independence, confidence, and teaching over 80% of participants to ride a bike independently for the first time. To fill some gaps in our volunteer schedule, we are now recruiting spot-fillers who can only commit to sessions and cannot attend the full week of camp.
