2022 Texan of the Year Gala & Golf event Cinéshow celebrates Ten Years at Cinéshow with Honoree, Don Harton, Cinemark EVP of Design & Construction
DALLAS, TX – [2022] This year’s gala fundraiser will mark ten incredible years of partnership between Variety of Texas and Cinéshow. The annual gala and golf event, scheduled for 5:30pm on Wednesday, August 24th at the Renaissance Hotel – Addison. The next morning, there will be a shotgun start at 8:30am at Texas Star Golf Course. Funds raised through the Texan of the Year Gala & Golf event benefit Variety’s mission to empower children who live with differences. Cinemark’s Don Harton will be honored as the 2022 Texan of the Year.
“Don just gets us,” said Stacy Bruce, the Executive Director & President of Variety of Texas. “He understands our needs and he’s invested in assuring we achieve success by maximizing our biggest asset: Peaceable Kingdom by Variety.”
Peaceable Kingdom by Variety (PK) is located in Killeen, TX, one hour north of Austin. Variety’s 122-acre summer camp and retreat is customized and adaptable to accommodate all kids’ needs – regardless of their mobility or ability level.
After the devastating snowstorm and flood of ’21, Don led Variety of Texas through the construction process to repair its 66-seat Theatre in the Woods cinema and arcade. Since then, he spearheaded the new Fort Walter playspace build. He has been critical in coordinating projects for the Cinemark Cares retreats, which included replacing a sport court, building a hammock village, overhauling an old barn and collaborating with Keurig Dr Pepper to build a playground. He’s even become a familiar face to our camp staff because of the countless trips and site visits he's made to Peaceable Kingdom.”
The cinema industry has been supporting Variety, the Children’s Charity for more than 85 years. Cinemark’s philanthropic relationship with Variety of Texas has been sweetly described as a sturdy marriage between a nonprofit and for-profit company.
