What is the application process?


First time applicants to the Summer Program Internship must provide:

·        A current resume

·        Official copies of all college transcripts

·        2 completed recommendation forms

·        A complete online application for first time applicants


Returning applicants to the Summer Program Internship must provide:

·        A current resume

·        Official copies of all college transcripts

·        A complete online application for returning Interns


Can I receive college credit?


To inquire about receiving college credit, please check with your faculty advisor at your school. 


Do you provide housing?


We provide on-site housing for Summer Program Interns. Interns must provide their own transportation to the retreat.


How long is the Summer Program?


Orientation for Summer Program Interns will begin on May 18th and run until June 3rd. The Summer Camp Program begins June 4th and will end on August 18th.


What will I be doing?


If you are accepted for the Summer Program Internship, you will assist with all aspects of the Summer Program including preparing the retreat, greeting campers, program activities (set-up, facilitate, cleanup), and scheduled aquatic activities. Interns will also assist in the daily operations of the facilities, food prep, and program planning. 

What training is provided?


Summer Program Interns are trained in all aspects of the Summer Camp Program. On-site training for Interns runs for the first two weeks of the program. During orientation, Interns will become certified on-site in high ropes, low ropes, lifeguard, CPR/First Aid, and food handling.


Does camp provide transportation during the summer program?


Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom does not provide transportation for Summer Interns. Many Summer Program Interns who are able bring their cars to the retreat for the summer, and carpool during time off to leave the retreat.

How many camps and campers are there?


Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom hosts 12 diagnosis specific camps during our Summer Program. We start the summer off with Camp Grey Dove for kids with siblings who have cancer. Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas sends three camps: Out on a limb, for kids with two or more missing limbs; Camp Freedom, for kids with arthrogryposis; HD2, a camp for teens with hand differences.

Camps average in about 50 campers, some smaller and only a few larger. Most camps are overnight, and last a week. You can see a complete list of camps, and diagnosis served on our website.
